One day was barely enough for a seminar on discovering the core resources of well-being within oneself along with loving self-care and committed mental health care. Yet it was done by Ms. Harriet H. Hormillosa and team on October 6, 2019 to an audience of 26 interested women and men from different walks of life. The session she said was open to all because anybody can be a manager of himself/herself and can assist others to achieve mental health. But the task starts with the self. Thus she emphasized the importance of being mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually healthy before being able to help others. A right mindset, care for the self, love for the self, she said, are very important to own and to live by before engaging in helping others develop a proper health care.
This idea is very important to drive home more emphatically to parents, teachers, pastors and all who are in charge of formation of the young generation. For Jesus said, Love your neighbor as you love yourself (Mk 12:31). But what does loving the self really mean? Is the phenomenon on suicidal tendencies a symptom that people do not really love themselves? This session offered some questions for reflection also for the Bible Apostolate advocates. More research is on the way for sessions to be offered to a wider audience so there would be more Self Carers and Mental Health First Aiders among animators of the Word of God.
