December 1, 2015 is the first day of His Excellency Sofronio Bancud, SSS, D.D. to serve as the elected Chairman of the Episcopal Commission on the Biblical Apostolate (ECBA). This was formally celebrated in a simple but meaningful ceremony where His Excellency Pablo Virgilio S. David turned over his duties and responsibilities as the outgoing chairman of the commission. Along with the ECBA flag, Bp. Ambo (as he is fondly called) also handed over the ECBA Manual, the 20 ECBA National Bible Workshop (NBW) Statements, the audited financial reports, and the minutes of the executive committee meetings from 2011 to 2015. Words and gestures of gratitude were joyfully expressed to him by Fr. Elmo Montano who represented the regional directors who were absent, Fr. Jesus Layug, the regional director for Central Luzon, Dr. Nora Lucero of Philippine Bible Society, and of course the executive secretary and staff of ECBA. The Mindanao region sent their gift of appreciation and love via JRS, a gesture which obviously touched the hearts of everyone present especially that of Bp. Ambo. Present to welcome the new chairman (Bp. Ron) and to join in thanking Bp. Ambo for his unselfish and dedicated leadership of six years were His Excellency Broderick S. Pabillo, regional director for the National Capital Region, Bishop-Elect Victor Ocampo, Vice-chairman, Dr. Nora Lucero and Ms. Perry Cartera of Philippine Bible Society, Rev. Fr. Andres Nuesca, Jr. the regional director for John Paul I Biblical and Pastoral Center, Fr. Jess Layug, the regional director for Pius X Biblical Center, Fr. Joel Aliligay, the diocesan director for CFC, Violy del Mundo, MSERC Lay Coordinator, Fr. Angelo Ramil Caparros, diocesan director, Diocese of Gumaca, Sr. Emma Lin Monkon, MSM, affiliate member, Fr. The turn over ritual was immediately followed by the executive committee meeting where major concerns on the 21st National Bible Workshop were discussed. A circular letter will be forwarded to all concerned regarding the details. A holy and meditative Advent to everyone.

A Community of Disciples
nourished by the Word of God,
Witnessing to the Gospel,
and Striving to be a Church
that is poor and for the poor,
with Mary, Mother of the Word, as model.
We commit ourselves to a renewed evangelization through the
implementation of Vatican II’s Constitution on Divine Revelation (Dei Verbum)
and the Plenary Council of the Philippines’ (PCP II) vision of a Church of
the Poor in our reading, studying,
praying, living, sharing and celebrating the Word of God in response to Verbum Domini's call to “animate every
pastoral activity in the Church with the Word of God”. (VD 73) .
